The “I’m back” Blog

Readers, it’s been a while.

I was doing a good job of writing regular blogs and newsletter content, so why the hiatus?

Well, not to cast a Grinth-style shadow over this newsletter-land (that will make sense if you’ve read the books!) but the truth is I lost a pet and after 10+ years together, it’s been a struggle to adapt. I lost motivation there for a while, too, and it’s times like this that I really appreciate the friends who have helped drag me through this dark period.

But anyone who knows me will also know nothing can keep me down for long. I wrote a blog way back on depression and about doing things like exercise as a starter for moving past it. When I was struggling, I realised I needed to take my own advice, otherwise it was just hypocritical, so that’s what I did. I’ve been working out a lot and I can definitely say it’s helped. It doesn’t take away the pain, but it does keep my mind and body active and generate useful endorphins that help me feel more positive.

So, for any of you who have been through similar loss, you are not alone. Keep persevering, lean on others for once, and it will get easier.

Now, to more positive things! As well as progressing The Inner Lands Book 3, I’ve been working on a “reader magnet”. It’s basically something us writers are told we need to have as something to offer new readers and subscribers. That name does amuse me though. Like just by writing it I’m going to draw all these people in like a horde of zombies herding towards a still-beating heart.

If only my writing was that powerful.

Anyways, for me it felt refreshing and worthwhile to work on something new. It’s a novelette (about 8000 words) on one of the Legends of the Inner Lands. Once finished, it will be free on my website and to my newsletter readers. I’m looking forward to introducing the characters to you, and the plot and setting does offer a few more hints about the origins of the Inner Lands story.

It’s called Luthur, so if you already own any of my books, now is the time to scan through and see what references you can find! I promise you he’s mentioned in there.
